Stonecrest Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Keeping Smiles Healthy and Beautiful
At Stonecrest Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Smyrna, Dr. Jennifer Gordon-Maloney spends her days restoring health and beauty to her patients’ smiles through oral surgery and cosmetic dentistry.

Dr. Maloney and her experienced staff of registered dental assistants care for and treat patients for wisdom teeth extractions, jaw fractures, oral pathology, facial infections, oral biopsies, extractions, and snoring/sleep apnea. They also provide cosmetic services such as dental implants.

In the spring and summer months, Stonecrest O&M sees an influx of teenagers having wisdom teeth removed. “Ages 16-18 is the prime time for having wisdom teeth out,” says Dr. Maloney. To avoid interference with school and extracurricular activities, she recommends spring or summer break for wisdom teeth extraction and recovery. “Simply consult with your dentist or orthodontist,” she says.

Stonecrest O&M makes continuing education and staying abreast of the latest technology and developments in oral care their top priority. They offer digital radiology as well as new method of screening for oral cancer. Dr. Maloney says, “Vizalite® is a non-invasive, more accurate method of screening for oral cancer.” Patients who are high risk or at risk for oral cancer are instructed to rinse with a solution and then examined using Vizalite®, which is a specially designed light technology which makes abnormal oral tissue more recognizable. “From that point,” says Dr. Maloney “I can make a recommendation as to whether a biopsy is needed.

Oral cancer, if caught early, is very curable, which is why technology like Vizalite® is so important. “This makes the practioners do a more thorough oral screening. Before, we would just do a basic visual examination. This is a more precise and scientific method of screening for cancer,” says Dr. Maloney.

Patient comfort and personal attention are also of the utmost importance at Stonecrest O&M. “Fear of oral surgery is common; my goal is to ease their anxiety,” she says. Dr. Maloney works in conjunction with area dentists to handle complicated procedures requiring IV anesthesia and to better care for patients with medical various medical issues who need direct access to hospital care.

Dr. Maloney opened her practice in Smyrna in 2005. She is a member of the American Dental Association®, the Tennessee Dental Association, The Tennessee Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and the and Nashville Dental Society.
