A Philosophy of Caring
Stephanie Williams, adoptive mom and social worker for Heaven Sent Children, can tell you that the adoption process can be likened to pregnancy with the months of leg-work, processes, waiting, and the anticipation of holding your precious child in your arms.

Stephanie interned with Heaven Sent before moving with her husband to Colorado. “We went through an international adoption while in Colorado,” she says. “After moving back to Tennessee, I got a job with Heaven Sent.” Stephanie is preparing to adopt again, from Vietnam. “I went through this with my daughter, Sophia, so I thought I understood what people go through . . . now, I have a greater deal of empathy.”

An important part of the process is the home study and dossier where an extensive background check is conducted into the family’s life as well as interviews, references, etc. Stephanie says, “The home study and dossier process can take from 2-5 months, and 6-8 months later we should receive the referral of our child . . . It’s a very emotional time.” The difference at Heaven Sent is their philosophy to take each case personally. “Almost all of us are adoptive mothers; we have been there. We personally handle each case from start to finish while remaining professional and thorough, quick and efficient. We understand how emotional this process is, and we help to maintain a balance.”
