Stonecrest Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Fear-Less Oral Surgery
|
Truth be told, thoughts of oral surgery are often accompanied by feelings of fear and anxiety. “Fear of oral surgery is common and totally understandable,” says oral and maxillofacial surgeon Dr. Jennifer Gordon-Maloney. “My goal is to ease my patients’ anxiety.”
Dr. Maloney says, “I love working with people, and everyone that comes in to me is an opportunity to meet someone new and learn a little bit about them and give them the opportunity to have the surgical experience that they were scared to have in the first place. We have a lot of patients who are petrified and find out that it wasn’t so bad after all.” Dr. Maloney provides patients with personal attention and takes time to get to know her patients. Listening to concerns and addressing questions are always her top priority. “When people come here they see that we’re genuine and sincere; patients are never just a number.”
Dr. Maloney and her exceptional staff of registered dental assistants, trained in oral surgery and anesthesia, treat patients for facial infections, wisdom teeth extractions, jaw fractures, oral pathology, oral biopsies, teeth removal for dentures, and snoring/sleep apnea. They also offer dental implants, a great solution to conventional tooth restoration. They work in conjunction with local dentists to handle more complicated dental procedures requiring IV anesthesia and for patients who have a variety of medical problems needing direct access to hospital care.
Stonecrest O&M utilizes state-of-the-art technology such as digital radiology which allows for easier diagnosis and treatment planning. Dr. Maloney says, “We continue our education each year to be the most informed and to help patients feel like they can trust that we are always on top of the latest technology and treatments.” They are located inside Stonecrest Medical Center, built in 2003. “It’s really important to patients to know that we are located in a hospital,” says Dr. Maloney.
Dr. Maloney began her practice in Smyrna in July of 2005. The daughter of a dentist, she developed her interest in dentistry while working in her father’s office. Dr. Maloney's extensive educational and clinical experiences include 1 year of a hospital-based, general practice residency, 4 years of dental school, 4 years at an accredited post-graduate Oral & Maxillofacial surgical program and, a year of an Oral & Maxillofacial surgical fellowship at the Oral Surgical Institute in Nashville. Dr. Maloney belongs to the ADA®, the Tennessee Dental Association, the Tennessee Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and The American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
